Do you ever feel like you’ve already played all the good games?
Whenever I beat a game, I want more story. Most of the games I play are some type of RPG and I can only get into them if I can get into the story. I can’t tell you what exactly makes me care about a game because it can be totally different things. All I know is that once I get into a game, I REALLY get into the game.
And by “the game” I really just mean the main story. I get very much into the urgency of it all, since normally I am trying to save the world in one way or another. So EXCUSE ME if I can’t help you go look for your missing cat! lol So yea, I often don’t do a whole lot of side quests, even though I know very well that sometimes those side quests have some of the best stories.
Anyway, point is, once I’m done with a game that I’m very much into, I always try and find other games that are similar and very often all the lists I see of “If you liked this game you’ll love this other one” are full of games that either do not interest me at all, or that I know straight up I hate.
It always just leaves me feeling like sadly I have already played the best games and nothing seems to come close to them. Of course, till eventually I try another game that ends up being amazing lol.
I think there are many good games still out there. But some of them are very overwhelming to start. I’m a big fan of RPGs and action adventure games. Before I start a game I like to check howlongtobeat.com to see the time. And most of the ones I want to play are huge time investments. So I sometimes opt for an indie game… which ends up being just as long by trying to get all the achievements or goals. I just think we need to star playing, anything, if it stinks, move on. But you might find a gem that for you is good even though it hasn’t been hyped or highly scored.
Yea, problem is so many games take so long to get good lol. I really should give FFXVI a try, I mean, I paid for it, haven’t touched it once, it’s been playing on my PS5 by others, never me lol.
I’ve started to avoid achievements and trophies. Also not using guides. So far I’ve enjoyed games a lot more. Except for games I really like. One example of a game I 100% was Dragon Quest XI. I think it was worth it. Most games not so much.
You had been recommending DQXI for so long and I kept putting it off even though it was free for me to play since I was already paying for Gamepass and it was on Gamepass. Just looking at the cover I didn’t think I’d care for it.
Finally I started playing it and I got hooked fairly quicly. Still one of the best games I’ve ever played.
A very simple game, that I’ve enjoyed playing in short bursts… 30 minutes or less, is Vampire Survivors. It is very addictive even though there’s not a lot to it.
