Metroid Prime 4 Trailer from the March 2025 Nintendo Direct

Here is a new Trailer for Metroid Prime 4

In some ways it almost reminds me of Zelda BotW. Something about the graphics and the new powers.

What do you think?

I can’t say much since I’ve never played any of the other Prime games but this one looks like it might be good.

I am really excited for it! The appeal of Metroid for me was always Samus exploring new worlds within the cosmos. I am excited to see what alien civilization used to live in those ruins, what culture they had, what was the source of their power, and what was the source of their downfall.

The psychic powers look neat. I hope there will be physics-based puzzles throughout the game. Additionally, the combat combined with these abilities looks interesting, using telekinesis to move the energy beams while in flight.

Moreover, I always liked Metroid tackling different forms of powers within the Science Fiction genre. Teleportation, suit manifestation, energy beams, cybernetics, and bio-weapons that devour life energy have been explored in Metroid.

These powers have been used to further the development of life or for conquest. I like the idea of psychic powers since they connect to a form a spiritualism within Science Fiction: the power of the mind/soul. Metroid always had the Chozo: the empire of bird-men that raised Samus and gave her the power suit. The Chozo ruins within the Metroid Prime series showed how the Chozo valued both science and magic, believing in a balance between the two. An example of this is found in Metroid Prime 1 ]: there were levels that had Samus fighting Chozo ghosts. Psychic Powers are merely a form of magic in harmony with the scientific cosmos. I look forward to seeing the implications of these Psychic Powers within the story and game of Metroid Prime Beyond.

Hopefully the game is made in a way where people who are not all that familiar with the games will be able to get into it. Only Metroid I’ve actually played and beat was Metroid Dread. I’ve already forgotten a lot of the story lol but I am somewhat familiar with the story of Samus, not all of it but some of the bigger parts. I guess if anything I can find a good youtube video that explain a lot of it.

What did you think of the graphics? Do you think that was all Switch or do you think they threw some Switch 2 on there?

The graphics look impressive to me! However, I think they may have cheated with this video and used the Switch 2. The graphics looked too much for the normal Switch 1 to handle. Or, they found a way to optimize the game that allowed for great graphics on the Switch 1’s primitive hardware.

I actually have mixed feelings about the graphics. Some scenes the detail seems from PS3 or Xbox360 generation. But it’s too early to really say much.

I think they just found ways to make it look like there is more going on than what is actually there. Just some tricky coding like they used to work with CRT TVs to use the scanlines to hide things. These developers are tricky! lol

Yea, we’ll have to wait and see some real gameplay, I will say, watching it on the Switch 2 trailer does make me a bit more exited about the idea of playing this game with the Switch 2 joycons in mouse mode. We’ll see
